Our most popular annual that loves shade

There are impatiens with prominent eyes as well as star varieties with a contrasting colored center star.

Impatiens don’t tolerate cold well, so don’t start planting impatiens outdoors until all danger of frost is past. Once they begin blooming, they won’t stop until late fall. The flowers face upward and cover the plant so that you almost don’t see the foliage, but you do see the beautiful flowers lining your walkway, filling your containers or hanging over the edges of your pots. Park Seed also carries Shady Lady Hybrid Impatiens which are the impatiens walleriana species. These plants have greater branching with more flowers per plant and, best of all, the flowers are larger than usual.

Purchase impatiens seeds from Park Seed to start indoors using the Bio Dome seed starting kit. Impatiens are easy to grow and only require light to germinate so place the seed on top of the soil and don’t cover it. It can take up to three weeks for the seed to germinate. Your plants will be blooming in about three months after planting. If you prefer, you can also purchase the impatiens plants from Park Seed. The plants come in single colors, or you can purchase a collection of various colored impatiens.

Impatiens flowers are easy to grow, low-maintenance flowers. They are self-cleaning, so no deadheading is required. They are excellent as a container plant, as well as planted directly in your shade garden.
