Lisianthus plants are native to prairies and fields from northern Mexico all the way to Colorado and Nebraska and grow in a variety of colors, including white, pink, purple and blue. The buds of the lisianthus flower resemble tulips, but when they open, the flowers most closely resemble roses. The blooms are so heavy that we recommend providing some support so the long stems don't topple over from the weight of the flowers.
Starting lisianthus seeds indoors is easy. Simply lay them on top of the soil and, once started, they can be transplanted once the threat of frost has passed. Lisianthus plants prefer full sun but will tolerate partial shade. They also need well-drained soil and should be watered regularly during dry spells. But note they're not a fan of humidity.
