You don't need a field to grow this nutritious and incredibly varied tuber (root vegetable). Any clean 2- to 3-foot high container with drainage holes in the base will serve to grow a bumper crop of taters. To harvest them, all home gardeners do is turn the container over and watch the potatoes spill out.

Of course, you can also plant your potatoes the traditional way in the garden. Potatoes prefer a loose sandy soil, so if you have clay soil you should plant your potatoes in raised beds.
